Privacy Policy
OutboardMotorSpecs (outboardmotorspecs.com) is operated by [PENDING: legal name of the operator] (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the site collects, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can use the whole site without an account and without giving us any personal data.
- We don't use tracking or advertising cookies, and we don't sell or rent your data.
- The only personal data we may hold is an email address you choose to give us when you report an error or request an engine, and we delete it on a schedule.
What we collect and why
Error reports and engine requests. When you use the report form, we store the engine or value you mention and your message. Leaving your email is optional; if you do, we use it only to reply to you, and you must confirm you are 16 or older.
Searches. We record the words you type in the search box, whether there were results, and the date. These records are anonymous: they include no IP address, email or device information. We use them to decide which engines to add next.
Visit statistics. We count visits and measure page speed with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. They use no cookies and do not identify or track individual visitors across sites: visits are grouped with an anonymous identifier that is discarded within 24 hours.
Technical data. Like any website, our hosting provider automatically processes technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure. Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which briefly checks your connection and browser to block bots.
Data that stays on your device. Engines you save for offline use, recently viewed engines and your light or dark theme choice are stored only in your browser. They never reach our servers, and you can delete them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
How long we keep it
- Email in an error report: deleted 90 days after the report is closed. The report text is kept.
- Email in an engine request: deleted when the request is closed, or after 12 months at the latest. The request text is kept.
- Anonymous search records and visit statistics: kept as aggregate data to improve the site.
- Technical hosting logs: kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own policy.
Who processes your data for us
We share data only with the service providers that run the site, and only for that purpose. We never sell or rent it.
- Vercel (United States): website hosting, cookie-free visit statistics and page speed measurement.
- Supabase (United States): database that stores reports and requests.
- Cloudflare (United States): bot protection on forms.
- Google (United States): sign-in for our own administrator account only. Visitors never sign in.
We also use an AI service from Anthropic to help our team draft engine data from manufacturer documents. It does not receive visitors' personal data.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies of its own and uses no tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If you follow a buy link to a retailer such as Amazon, that retailer may set its own cookies on its own site, including cookies that credit us for a purchase (see our Affiliate Disclosure). Their privacy policies apply there.
Links to other sites
Engine pages link to manufacturers' official documents and to parts retailers. We don't control those sites, and this policy doesn't cover them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or ask us to delete it. Since the only personal data we may hold is an email you gave us, just write to [PENDING: contact email] from that address and we will act on your request within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
International visitors
The site is run from the United States and most of our providers are based there, so information you send us is processed in the United States.
Children
The site is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16, and our forms ask you to confirm you are 16 or older before you leave an email.
Changes
When we add or change a service that handles your data, we update this page and the date below.
